Skill Development Program at Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi.

Kirori Mal College has initiated Six months certificate on Entrepreneurship and Start-up under UGC - National skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) to inculcate skills among young students to start their own venture. The main objective of the course is to motive and inspire students to become job provider rather than job seekers. The certificate course is very unique and useful in terms of learning and practice as it is consist of general education and skill based training. To impart skills, college has signed Memorandum of understand (MoU) with different industries, skills councils and technical institutions enabling students to learn technical skills in Digital Marketing, food technology, solar energy, retail, software, construction, and bakery sector. During the program, students visit Incubation centre, small industries, and national level institutions like National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) to understand the Government policies and facilities available for the potential entrepreneurs. Presently, under the second batch of certificate course 50 students have been enrolled and attending classes everyday in the evening and participating in different events like entrepreneurship – Summit, Business plans in different universities and institutions to pitch their ideas for funding. In first batch and second batch of the course more than 8 students have started their own start-up. One of the students of Entrepreneurship course has visited Netherlands in Feb 2020 and participated in one week trade fair sponsored by NSIC New Delhi.

Report of HRD- IIT Delhi (UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN) at K.M. College, University of Delhi

The Kirori Mal College has been selected for Unnat Bharat Abhiyan sponsored by IIT - Delhi. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a flagship program of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, with the intension to enrich rural India. It also aims to create a vibrant relationship between society and the higher educational institutes, with the latter providing the knowledge and technical support to improve the livelihoods in rural areas and to upgrade the capabilities of both public and private organizations in the society.

Under the UBA program, College has organized One day awareness program conducted at Munni and Rudri village of Bulandshahar on 19th February 2020. More than 100 women participated in the awareness program, program was organized at village school, and female from the age group 15 to 45 participated in the program. It was observed that 70% women have reproductive infections as notice from the symptoms shared by women.

Under the program, College has adopted 5 villages (Munni, Sahaipur, Narayanpur, Bhogpura, Rudri) near Khurja in Bulandshahar district of Uttar Pradesh and carrying out studies of living conditions, accessing the local problems and needs. The students and faculty members are frequently visiting adopted 5 villages time to time and have made village level and household level survey in May 2019 to understand the socio-economic profile of the villagers to understand their socio-eco problems. Recently college has organized one day health check-up camp for the villagers in association with Chhatrapati Shivaji Subharati hospital Merrut and Kailash Hospital Khurja to spread medical and hygiene awareness and distributed free of cost medicine to the villagers. The team of doctors has checked 250 villagers and prescribed them different kind of medicines as per the treatment. College has also distributed stationary and hand-wash soap to 80 students of the primary school of the sahaipur village during the camp.

National Service Scheme - Kirori Mal College (NSS-KMC) Unit is working through University of Delhi under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Govt. of India since the programme was launched by MYAS in 1969.

The volunteers of NSS- KMC unit work with the motto: ‘Not Me But You’. This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. All the volunteers work towards giving back to the society. The strength of NSS-KMC cogitates in its tag line “Sahas Se Sehyog Karen” which means to have courage, be / make others empowered to extend helping hand. With this aim all volunteers participates in all the activities, to be more focused, accountable, develop leadership, quality contribution to the community and social work unit works under two broad wings: SAHYOG- “CHILD EMPOWERMENT WING” “EACH ONE TEACH ONE PROGRAMME” and SAHAS-“WOMEN EMPOWERMENT WING”.

The unit conduct National Programmes (as per directives of MYAS), Out-Reach Programmes, Social Work, SUPATH (Three day event includes HAPPY FEET & PRIDE PARADE, AASHAYEIN help yourself fest & ALANKARAN and PAHAL empowering women sports meet), KMYP Kirori Mal Youth Parliament, NSS DAY with WOMEN CONCLAVE, BLOOD DONATION & HEALTH CAMP, UMANG Sports Meet for underprivileged, women & special kids, FELCITATION & Legacy Connection Ceremony, SUMMER-INTERNSHIP. One programme which is run by the unit throughout the year is the EACH ONE TEACH ONE programme, where the children of the adopted village of Chandrawal lane no 3,4,5 & 6 come to college premises every day from 3-5pm. The aim of the programme is to provide academic support / free tuitions, recreational innovative activities, cultural activities and personality development activities, celebrations of national days and festivals for adopted village kids in college premises.

Other than these activities, unit also works not only for the women empowerment but also spreads awareness about the pressing contemporary issues regarding the same through different events, interactive sessions, workshops as well as various drives. In 2019-2020, Unit also joined hands with EKAL VIDYALAYA through which our selected volunteers conduct ‘Helping Hand Camp’ in the villages under Ekal Vidyalaya as a regular feature.

The structure of the unit includes Principal as Patron Prof. Vibha Singh Chauhan, headed by Programme officer Dr. Benu Gupta, Executive Committee comprises of four office bearer viz President Ms. Bhavya, Secretary Ms. Toshita Joshi, Tresurer Ms. Arshita Chaurasia, Joint Secretary Mr. Akash Kumar Kannaujiya; Coordination Committee comprises of four members with at least one year of NSS experience viz Mr. Rishav Kumar, Ms. Vidhi, Ms. Ananya Yadav, Ms. Sukriti Chawla and Volunteers this year there are total 90 successful volunteers including Boys 41 and Girls 49.

From the pages of the Mahabharata to the most recent World War in 1945, this saying holds true. Kirori Mal's NCC wing is among the finest in the University. From the year 1964, this NCC Unit has travelled leaps and bounds. It has an active training and cultural calendar. The college has facilities for NCC training for male and female cadets.
